How many calories does your body burn each day?

Your Metabolic Fingerprint (resting energy expenditure) represents how many calories your body burns in a day. Since metabolism accounts for a majority of the total calories we need in a day, it is an important piece of information to appropriate establish your individual caloric needs. Your Metabolic Fingerprint can represent 75% or more of a person's total metabolism if there are not active or lead a sedentary lifestyle.

The Med Gem indirect calorimeter by HeatheTech is a handheld, portable device that measures your body's resting metabolic rate (RMR)*. By performing a simple, non-invasive procedure, our diet experts will be able to more accurate determine your calorie needs. This measurement is not available everywhere, but is readily accessible to all of our clients. Call to schedule your measurement today.

Preparation for the test:

1. rest for 10-15 minutes prior to the test

2. No eating for 4 hours

3. No exercise for 4 hours

4. No supplements or stimulants for 4 hours

5. No nicotine for 1 hour.

*RMR is calculated using the Weir equation and a constant RQ value of 0.85 (RMR=6.931 x VQ2); Wier, J.B., New Methods for Calculating Metabolic Rate with Special Reference to Protein Metabolism. J. Physiol, 1949. 109; pages 1-9.
